If you’re anything like me, the most challenging barrier to using AI has been remembering or thinking of when exactly to use it.
Thus, for today’s blog, I thought I would share five things I used AI for this week. If you’re someone who hasn’t yet embraced how AI can help you in your daily life, I hope this will help.
#1: Stubborn Carpet Stains 🐶
Anyone who knows me knows I love my little dog Hudson more than just about anything in this world. But that’s not to say his puppy years weren’t – ahem – quite rough on our wall-to-wall cream colored carpets! There are some stains I’ve never been able to get out, even after trying numerous products and even a few different vacuum cleaners. So this week I took my challenge to AI, which provided me with some great ideas I hadn’t considered and feel hopeful about (stay tuned for results).
#2: Gift Ideas 🎉
My sister’s birthday was last week, and in an effort to get her a thoughtful gift, I turned to AI. I told AI some of the things my sister enjoys – cooking, crocheting, audiobooks, Pilates, going for walks – and asked for 10 ideas. AI’s response led me to take a trip to Sur la Table, where I found her a beautiful purple ceramic mixing bowl she loves. Win!
#3: Travel Credit Cards 💳
After many years with only my trusty Chase Freedom credit card, I recently decided it was time to hop on the airline/travel credit card bandwagon. I want those perks! So I asked AI for a breakdown of the top five most popular airline/travel credit cards with benefits and fees for each. With such a simple and accessible breakdown, I was able to make a decision about the card that makes the most sense for me quite quickly.
#4: Finding Old Paint Colors 🎨
In an effort to keep my condo looking A+, I recently decided to do some paint touchups. But wait, what was that color called again? For some of my accent walls, I painted them eight or even nine years ago! I asked AI, “How can I figure out what paints I used from long ago?” and as it turns out, paint companies often keep customer purchase records going back years for this very reason. Who knew? (As an aside, Benjamin Moore only retains customer records going back 5 years, whereas Sherwin-Williams retains them indefinitely – good to know!).
#5: Music Recommendations 🎧
A new weekly experiment I’ve begun is asking AI for a recommended band or artist to check out. It’s simple: I tell them 10-20 of my favorite all-time artists and bands, and ask for one single recommendation of someone to check out for the week. So far? It’s going pretty well! And that’s no small task – when it comes to music (or, er, most things), this girl is picky 🤓
In Summary
So, what do all of the above have in common? When it comes to knowing when to turn to AI for help, no one has put it better than my friend Ariel Wan, CEO of The Mama’s Network. At a talk she gave in my town a few years ago, she told us, “Think of AI as your intern. What sort of research might you ask your intern to do?” I’ve never forgotten this. Whenever there’s a task I need help with, I turn to my (mostly) trusted “intern.” 🤗
