Sometimes, an experience while being the customer can turn into a great learning opportunity for how to be a better business owner! Today’s story is the perfect example.
While engaging with a company to which I am spending a significant amount of money for their services, I experienced a glitch. I was instructed to log in to my online account, review some documents, and sign a contract. However, when I logged in, there was erroneous information in my account, and the documents I was told to review were nowhere to be found.
Now, as the customer, particularly one about to spend a significant amount of money, this rattled me a bit. I wondered if this was a sign that I should have done more shopping around, perhaps found a more reliable company to work with.
However – and this is important – my concerns were quickly put to rest by what happened next.
When I wrote to my contact to explain the issue I was having, she wrote back immediately and assured me she would look into this right away and work to get things resolved quickly. And sure enough, the issue with my account was corrected within a matter of hours, and I was able to move forward.
So in short, an occurrence that could have shaken my confidence in the service provider I had chosen turned into an experience that actually gave me even more faith that I was well-taken care of and had made a good decision.
So, to all my business owner friends out there: of course, we prefer never to make mistakes with our clients. We aim for their entire experience to be smooth, streamlined, and glitch-free. But the thing is, we’re human, and things do happen. We can’t expect perfection of ourselves all the time. So just take comfort in knowing that when those client mistakes do happen, they’re actually golden opportunities to give your clients even more faith in your abilities. When you respond to a mistake by apologizing genuinely and acting quickly to right whatever was wrong, you show them they are taken care of, always and in all ways.
