It’s official. I’m a folk musician!
As some of you know, about a year ago I started getting serious about guitar playing, singing, and songwriting. It started with a lot of practicing at home, then occasionally playing for a friend here and there, then hosting a few house concerts last spring, then attending some open mics around town last summer, and now, at last, I’m ready to announce myself!
Wait a minute … what happened to Janelle Reichman?
When I decided to embark on this entirely new musical venture, I quickly realized that with Google delivering 25,600 (and counting!) jazz-related results for the search “Janelle Reichman,” it was possible that no one would be able to find my folk music through all the jazz if I used the same name. Thus, I decided to use my middle name (and my mother’s last name) Haskell. I feel this name will serve me, and the music, well.
So what’s the big news?!
Three things in order of excitement from just exciting to crazy, crazy exciting:
1) I put up a new website at janellehaskell.com! Please check it out 🙂
2) On my website you can watch SIX NEW VIDEOS featuring yours truly finger-picking and singing my original songs (one of them embedded below for a taste).
3) The six songs are a preview of … drumroll please … my debut singer-songwriter album to be released sometime in 2023. Woot Woot!
So what do I do now?
If you feel so inclined, please go check out my music. I’ve poured my heart into the songs I’ve written and I’m so excited to share them with you.
And most importantly, if you’d like to get future updates about Janelle Haskell i.e. performance dates and updates about my album, know that this is the last time I’ll mention it on my Ellanyze website, so head on over to the subscribe form at janellehaskell.com and sign-up for the Insider List.
Anything else?
I think my driving purpose with my weekly blogging practice has been to try and inspire my readers to be creative, to be bold, to be brave, and to go after the things you want and love in life. I don’t always succeed at following the ideas in my own posts, so I’m proud to say that this time, I have. I had a crazy notion to become a singer-songwriter, and somewhere along the way in following a new passion, I became it. And whatever your crazy notion is, you can do the same <3

I hopped on here for the first time in a while to see how you’ve been, and whoa – this sounds great Janelle!
