Where Can You Be Your *Whole* Self?

My little pup and I just returned from our annual “snowbird” trip to Phoenix, which we thoroughly enjoy every year, largely in part because I have two friends there who I absolutely adore.

One night while we all shared a meal together, it occurred to me:

I can be myself with these people. I mean, really be myself. All parts of me – the good, the bad, and the ugly – can come out without hesitation because I know they’ll be met only with love and never judgment.

What an incredible feeling that is.

We all have many areas of our lives in which, for myriad reasons, we need to edit ourselves in some way. Be it around family members, in the workplace, in certain social circles, or elsewhere – we just can’t let everything hang out in these places, which makes sense.

But where – meaning with whom – can you be your whole, authentic self? If you’re anything like me, you can probably count these people on one hand – and that’s OK! ‘Tis a rare and special thing, to be celebrated, appreciated, cherished.

My only advice to you in today’s little Short & Sweet entry is, whoever those people are, let them know. Tell them how much you appreciate that you can be your whole, messy, REAL self around them and tell them you hope they feel the same when they’re with you.
