“I’m just learning lessons right now!”

About a month ago, I was out walking my dog late one evening and decided to look up at the stars. Which would be a fine notion normally, the problem is, I decided to look up the stars while still walking, so I couldn’t see where I was going. What happened? I missed the curb, rolled my foot severely inward, and fractured a bone on the top of my foot.

DOH!

A few weeks later, I was washing dishes (albeit a bit hurriedly), and as I was washing my large chef’s knife, I felt the edge of the blade slice into the pad of my thumb.

DOH!

(I’ll also mention that at present, my thumb is completely healed and my foot is well on its way, so please don’t worry about me too much.)

It occurred to me at some point in my suffering/recovery that I had some very important lessons to learn amidst these experiences. Lessons that may seem abundantly obvious, but that I needed to recognize and learn nonetheless.

(Because sometimes that’s how it is when you’re a human).

The lessons?

Look where you’re going.

And…

Be careful when you’re handling a knife.

Brilliant!

While over at my sister’s for dinner last week, I was relaying these stories to her, and I found myself laughing as I said, “I’m just learning lessons right now!”

Thus, the title of this blog 🤓

So what about you? Have you done some – err – not too bright things lately?

In other words, are you “just learning lessons right now?”

That’s great. Ain’t no shame.

However, my advice to you is just make sure you really learn those lessons, as trivial as they may seem. Otherwise, you’ll most likely need to learn them again.
