Cultivating Gratitude: Two Magic Words

Any entrepreneur will tell you that as grand as owning your own business is, we all have days from time to time when absolutely NOTHING goes as planned and every possible thing that you never, ever would have expected is suddenly staring you straight in the face.

Well I had one such day last week, and I tell ya, it was a downright humdinger.

So what did I do?

I called mom, of course.

And she did what she always does: she listened, she sympathized, and then, at the perfectly opportune moment, she offered me some words of wisdom that helped me to turn the whole thing around.

“It might help to return to gratitude.”

The funny thing about cultivating gratitude is…

…that it’s in our grumpiest, most negative moments when we least feel like giving thanks for what we have – that we can benefit from gratitude the most.

And the most beautiful thing about it? You can do it from literally anywhere (at the office, at the grocery store, sitting across from your mother-in-law at family dinner – you get the idea!).

Thank you for my health.
Thank you for my home.
Thank you for my family.
Thank you for my friends.

What are you thankful for? Say it out loud, make a list, say a prayer, craft a collage, shout it to the streets (!) … there’s simply no wrong way to cultivate gratitude.

P.S. And in case you’re wondering how my story turns out, I’ll tell you: every single thing resolved itself in one way or another. Funny how that happens, isn’t it? 😉
