Blogging Tips and Tricks: Create Compelling Posts & Get Them Read

These 10 blogging tips and tricks can help you to reach your audience, make an impact, and build a following.

Blogging Tips and Tricks: a magazine rack chock full of magazines

While some of us are lucky enough to be able to continue working and serving our clients during this strange and isolating time, most of us are being forced to sit and wait it out, frustrating and stressful as it may be.

But whether or not you’re able to directly provide your services at this time, there’s one thing that we all can be doing: staying connected to our audience and keeping our brand visible.

And while there are countless ways of achieving this, I’m going to focus on one that feels both highly effective and highly doable for the vast majority of us: blogging.

Below are 10 quick blogging tips to help you engage your audience, have an impact on others, and set you up for a path back to a packed schedule when your work does commence once again.

1) Write about topics you care about.

When you write about things that, in all honesty, you don’t give a hoot about, your readers can tell. Write about things you’re passionate about, and your passion will come across clear.

2) Organize your posts into categories.

Which general topics interest your audience most of all? My categories include Marketing, Productivity, Self-care, Tech Tips, Lifestyle, and Relationships. What are yours?

3) Use high-quality images.

Nothing hampers an incredible blog post like a crappy, low-resolution image. Find fantastic quality (and free for use) images on stock photography sites. Unsplash is my personal favorite.

4) Include stories from your life.

People love stories more than just about anything else. If there’s ever a chance to work in a story from your personal life into your blog post, do it. It will give your post a slice of life.

5) Include action steps.

It’s one thing for your audience to read your posts and be generally interested. But when you get them moving and putting your ideas into action? Then you’re making both an impression and an impact.

6) Keep SEO in mind.

If you have a WordPress site, install the free Yoast SEO plugin to enter your targeted search phrase for each post and receive suggestions to optimize it. Even if SEO isn’t at the top of your strategy, if you’re blogging, you might as well be keeping SEO in mind as you go.

7) Include a number.

Adding a number gives any blog post title a boost. Which is better for a blog post title: How to Use Video on Your Website, or 3 Creative Ways to Use Video on Your Website? I rest my case.

8) Encourage comments.

Do you want to hear from your audience? Then tell them so! 🙂 End every blog post with a few questions and encourage your readers to share their opinion or experience in the comments below.

9) Share, share, share!

After you’ve written and published your blog post, share it in every single way you can: website, email, and all of your social media platforms. Get that word out. Your readers will thank you.

10) Make it a habit.

As much as we’d like, no single blog post is a magic bullet. What will give you the results you’re looking for is consistent creation over an extended period of time. How often can you blog? Two times a month? Once a week? Two times a week? Whatever is realistic for you, decide to begin and then STICK TO IT. Don’t wait for inspiration. Just do it.
