Change is Hard… And Awesome

The Biggest Change There Is

I recently had a conversation with a person who stood before the daunting task of completely reinventing their business and everything in it. Why this reinvention? In the last year this individual transitioned from one gender to another and as such, felt they were a completely new person. When they looked at their website, all of it (and not just the photos) felt disconnected, out of touch, and even foreign to the person they are now.

Understandably, they had no idea where to start. So what did I tell them?

Creating a Compass to Guide the Way

I started by sharing with them the “guiding light” question that has always helped me shape my business into something that feels wholly authentic and true to me.

“Is it me and do I love it?”

I told them that while the answer to that question right now might be a very loud and booming “NO!” – what lay before them was an incredible opportunity: to build something with intention from the heart.

I proceeded to send them to the very best and most brilliant brand strategist/designer I could think of, knowing they would be the perfect partner in creating a narrative and aesthetic that perfectly aligns with this person’s new “ME.”

(And yes, I mentioned that when they get to the website piece, I’ll be waiting by the phone! 🤓)

Embracing Change

There’s a reason most of us resist change for as long as possible: it’s hard!

But I write this post today because change is also necessary – even unavoidable. However, along with it comes the greatest gift: expansiveness, growth, and most importantly, the knowing that in future years, you won’t ever look back with regret.

Look at it this way: if the person I mentioned above can reinvent themself, their business, and everything else in their life, I think you can handle whatever change you know you need. And just as I can’t wait to see what they create because I know it’s going to be big, bold, and beautiful, I can’t wait to see what you change into as well.
