There’s something deeply pleasing about entering a brand new year, isn’t there? For me, it brings to mind the youthful delight I felt at the beginning of each school year when I’d get to pick out a shiny new binder, fill it with fresh clean sheets of paper, and pick out my pens and pencils for the classes ahead. Sure, later on, it would get scuffed up and filled with bits of scrap paper and notes passed in class, but for that first day it was immaculate: untouched, pristine, and endlessly tidy.
And that’s about how I feel about each and every new year – it’s a chance to get organized, make grand plans, and have a totally fresh start. It’s a beautiful thing!
But this year, I’ve decided that before I get wrapped up in all that hope and possibility for the year ahead, I’m going to take a moment.
I’m going to pause and recall my top 5 wins for the year behind.
Won’t you join me? It’s easy! Here’s what you do.
What was most awesome in 2022?
What were you most proud of?
What was most memorable?
Those are called wins, and you only have to recall five of them.
Think back on them and smile.
And that’s it, you’re done.
Here, I’ll go first:
1 – I went on tour with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and do you know what? After one of the shows, Wynton Marsalis came up to me, shook my hand, and paid me a true compliment. I’ll never forget it.
2 – I went to Disney World for the VERY first time with my sister and young nephew. We had a blast from start to finish.
3 – I got a puppy, named him Hudson, and fell in love. He’s helped me in more ways than I can count (but I did try to count).
4 – Some of my friendships went from close to closer. We bonded over pints downtown, long days at the lake, and watching our pups play together.
5 – I made six music videos and launched my singer-songwriter website. Woot!
Do you want to share one? Or all five? Let us know in the comments below👇 Remember them and feel aglow!
