On My 38th Birthday, 38 Things I Love About Life (in no particular order)

A fantastic night’s sleep

Occasionally painting my nails some bright and crazy color

My fabulous, creative, kind, FUN, and loving group of girlfriends

Throwing myself an 80s themed birthday party – just because

Getting new windows installed and other forms of “adulting”

Saying no to things I don’t want with no apology or explanation

Accepting my imperfections (hey, I am a deeply feeling and emotional person – and that’s cool!)

Recognizing my strengths without hesitation

Watching the leaves change day by day during morning walks

Days at the lake with surreptitious beers, question cards, trashy magazines, and cheap hotdogs and fries from the snack shop

The rare and heavenly “sleeping in” until 8 or 9 (!)

Getting lost in a big, soft, pillowy comforter

Stepping into my warm home from out in the cold

The *idea* of getting a dog

Putting my microwavable pillow on my feet at night

A long walk with a friend, particularly one without any destination

Knowing myself really, really, really well

The feeling I get when I discover a new chord on the guitar

Writing a song and getting so lost in it that I almost feel as though it’s writing itself

Gratitude journals and their unequivocal power to improve my mood and mindset

A mattress that’s not too hard not too soft – “juuuuuuust right”

The hope of a grand and everlasting love

Abundance

Weekends (i.e. shutting down the computer and appreciating all the little things)

Having a beautiful and beyond comfortable home that I’ve made all my own

Quiet: recognizing it when it’s there and savoring it

Driving around town on Saturday mornings running errands and listening to jazz on the car radio

Reading in bed until I literally can’t keep my eyes open

A big slice of New York-style cheesecake

Summer bike rides

Being an aunt

Being a sister

Having some hopes and dreams that no one knows about yet

Doing things that scare me and looking back on all the other scary things I’ve done and knowing it’ll be OK

Warm, basking light. Candles. Hygge

The color pink (of course)

Listening to a song I LOVE and had completely forgotten about

Living my own magical, mysterious, and totally unique life journey – and not (ever) knowing what will happen next…
