5 List Ideas You’ll Love

What is it that’s so alluring about lists? Perhaps it’s creating order out of chaos (i.e., our brains) or the freedom that comes from getting your thoughts and ideas out of your head and down on paper. One thing’s for sure: whatever the reason, for organization-loving folks like you and me, lists are here to stay. Below are five list ideas that you’ll want to start today if you don’t have them already. Have fun!

Book, Movie, and Show Recs

Don’t get me wrong, the Internet is an incredible resource, but when you’re looking for a book/movie/show recommendation, it can be downright overwhelming. Enter the book/movie/show rec list! It’s easy: anytime someone mentions a book/movie/show they love, add it to your list (you can even organize this list into genres if you like), and then, when you want a rec, you have a curated list just for you.

Gift Ideas

I’m not sure why it is that it’s nearly impossible to think of that perfect gift idea when you’re on the spot, but six months before someone’s birthday, that perfect gift idea will come to you without fail. Let’s turn this frustrating phenomenon to our advantage with the Gift Ideas list! If a loved one mentions something they like/want/need? Add it to your list. If you come across something you know someone would love? Add it to your list. When birthdays or the holidays roll along, shopping will be a breeze.

Words of Wisdom

You know the feeling. Someone says something that strikes you, that makes you stop and go “Hmm.” The Words of Wisdom list is for just these moments, for concepts/notions/ideas that you want to remember. And keep in mind, sometimes the Words of Wisdom come from YOU!

Someday Maybe

Painting accent walls around your home. Adopting a kitty. Test riding an e-bike. Planning a road trip all around your state. Starting a daily journaling practice. When ideas strike and you don’t know what to do with them (you can’t do them this second, after all), that’s where your Someday Maybe list comes in. There are no rules for this list other than you might – maybe – want to do this thing – someday. For more on this, check out my previous post Making a Someday Maybe List.

Meal Ideas

When you go to your friend’s house for dinner, the meal is tasty, and they say it was a cinch to make? It’s time to add it to your Meal Ideas list. Sure, if you’re like me, you might have 100+ recipes bookmarked in your web browser of choice, but what I like about the Meal Ideas list is that it’s designed for recipes that aren’t too complicated – recipes I’ll actually make. So when it’s time to plan for the week, hop over to your Meal Ideas list for a curated list of practical, tasty recipes.
