Tips For Your Brand Photoshoot: Making Sure It Goes Well

If you’re a business owner, you know the occasional photo shoot is simply part of the game. Whether it’s a simple headshot or a full-on brand photoshoot that will give you photos of all aspects of your business, it’s a financial investment for sure – and as such, you want to do everything you can to make sure that come the day of your shoot, it goes as well as it can.

Having just recently finished a photo shoot myself, the three tips below have been top of mind for what I want to do next time! Follow these to ensure your next photo shoot leaves you with photos you’re happy with for years to come.

Arrive early. Really early.

As much as I meant to arrive at the studio early, life (i.e., having to walk my dog, downtown traffic, hair troubles, etc.) happened. Give yourself WAY TOO MUCH time so you can arrive at the scene of your shoot at least 45 minutes prior to start time. This will give you ample time to settle in, relax, and get your head in the right space.

Have a strategy for loosening up.

Yes, it’s technically part of your photographer’s job to help you loosen up and look your best, but strategies on your part will help even more. Practice pulling up mental images that make you smile (i.e., your beloved, your pets, your kids, etc.). If you have a friend or significant other who will help put you at ease, bring them along! And if it’s one glass of wine or beer that will allow you to relax, by all means! Cheers.

Wear clothing that makes you feel like a million bucks.

Don’t leave choosing your outfit for the last minute. At least a few weeks ahead of time, go through your closet and try on the items you are considering wearing. This way, if your body has changed and you no longer feel good in those items, you’ll have time to plan accordingly. If you go shopping, aim to purchase items that first and foremost you FEEL good in. When you feel authentically comfortable in the clothes you’re wearing, it shows.

In Closing

Don’t let a stressful photoshoot happen to you! Arrive early, wear clothes you love, and have a plan for achieving a relaxed state of mind. When your gallery link arrives in your inbox a few weeks later, you’ll be oh so glad you did.
