A few weekends ago was for me what you might call a “party weekend,” which, if you’re a raging extrovert might sound like heaven on earth! However, for an introvert such as myself, two birthday parties, two Halloween parties, and one performance in the span of 4 days was, well, exhausting.
So come Monday I decided (and frankly had no choice – my social energy was GONE) to have a “selfish” day. A client was wondering if we could connect? Nope. My sister texted to ask if we could catch up on the phone? Nope. I had registered for a class at the pool that morning… but? Just nope. Nothing was happening on this “selfish” day but me hanging out with my dog. That’s it.
Now why might I be putting the word “selfish” into quotation marks here? Because here’s the thing: taking a self-ish day actually isn’t selfish at all! And why? Because even just the following day, I felt 100% energized and ready to give of my time and energy to the people and causes in my life once again.
But just as we’ve all heard dozens of times by now, you’ve got to put on your own mask first before helping others.
And this, my friends, makes taking that “selfish” day a purely loving thing to do.
So go on! Be selfish for a day! Do it!
And then, get back to being the outwardly giving, caring, and loving person you are 💕
