Do you remember the last time someone did something really nice for you for no reason at all? How did it make you feel? I don’t know about you, but when I have experiences like that, it reminds me that I live in a world where, even though evil exists – a whole lot of good does too. And it makes me want to do something equally nice for someone else so they can feel that same feeling. So this month I’m giving you five ideas for random acts of kindness. Love – pass it on!
1) Pass someone a paper heart.
If you’ve never sat down and made one of these before, you’re missing out. In case your paper-folding skills are a little rusty, here’s a handy photo tutorial to show you how. Don’t forget to put a message inside!
2) Let someone go ahead of you in line.
It might sound silly – but this is an awesome way to make someone’s day, and to practice patience as well.
3) Compliment a stranger.
All too often we’re afraid to say nice things to strangers for fear that they might think we’re weird, or worse, hitting on them. Burst through this fear – the next time you appreciate something about a stranger, just tell them! Guaranteed it will make their day.
4) Thank your mail carrier.
You see them all the time. How often do you think this person is verbally appreciated for delivering the mail every day no matter if it’s freezing, icy, raining, snowing, or whatever else? Probably not very often. Let them know you appreciate their service – it will make them smile.
5) Leave letters for strangers.
Once in NYC, I was waiting for the subway and I noticed a post-it note on one of the pillars. I looked closer and it said, “smile – you’re alive!” And for that moment it felt like that note had been put there just for me – even though I’m sure hundreds of others saw it too. But what a cool idea – leaving positive notes around to brighten the lives of the strangers around you!
